Celebrity Cup : Welsh Stars To Keep Party In Full Swing

After Wales’ emphatic Six Nations demolition of England on Saturday, another home team will be bidding to keep the Welsh party in full swing at The Celebrity Cup golf tournament in May.

With the 6 Nations having drawn to a close, all eyes now turn to the brand new Celebrity Cup at Golf Live which takes place at The Celtic Manor Resort from May 10-12.

On this occasion, four nations – England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales – will battle it out for bragging rights and a trophy presented by TV’s most popular double act, Ant and Dec.

The round-robin draw has already been made and sees Wales and England renew hostilities on the Saturday afternoon with the possibility that they will meet again in the final the following day.

Television presenter Gethin Jones, for one, is looking forward to keeping the Welsh in full song when he tees up in the first Celebrity Cup.

He said: “I was at the stadium on Saturday and it has to go down as one of the best sporting occasions I’ve ever experienced. I popped into the Welsh dressing room before the players arrived. It sent shivers down my spine and the atmosphere during the match was unbelievable.

“I know most of the Welsh boys and to see them step up to the plate and beat the old enemy so convincingly was just awe-inspiring. When I was a kid, I wanted to pull on that jersey myself so I’m thrilled to get the opportunity to represent Wales on the golf course in The Celebrity Cup at Golf Live.

“The rugby boys have shown us the way, it’s now up to us to keep the Welsh party going and see off the other nations at Celtic Manor. It’s made me doubly determined to hit the driving range and get in some practice.”

The England team will also be motivated to exact revenge and no-one more so on their side than Matt Dawson, the 2016 World Cup winner who could only watch as the present day crop of players were outplayed on Saturday. With Gavin Hastings and Kenny Logan also already confirmed for the Scotland team, there is guaranteed to be plenty of rugby banter ahead of this summer’s Lions tour to Australia.

Other stars who will be battling it out for national pride include Olympic hero Sir Steve Redgrave, comedian Rob Brydon, football legend Kenny Dalglish, Boyzone singer Keith Duffy and model and TV personality Jodie Kidd.

Montgomerie, the winning European Ryder Cup captain at Celtic Manor, will also oversee the teams in The Celebrity Cup which will raise funds for the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation, founded in memory of Colin’s mother who died of lung cancer in 1991.

The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation (EMF) was founded in memory of Colin Montgomerie’s mother who died of lung cancer in 1991. EMF aims to raise money for cancer patients and their families. The Foundation is a constituent fund of the Scottish Community Foundation (SCF).
